Preliminary figures indicate that during 2012 International airport “Kharkov” served about 500 000 passengers that became the highest performance indicator of this transport object in the history of independent Ukraine.
“There are several factors that allowed us to reach record-breaking indicators. First it is a complex reconstruction of International airport “Kharkov”. In preparation for Euro-2012 we got new runway due to which we have the opportunity to accommodate even heavy aircrafts in Kharkov. Also big passenger terminal was built and old building was reconstructed and reformatted for VIP-guests meeting. It became the impulse for geography extension of new direct flights from Kharkov, negotiations with different international air companies etc.”, – underlines Vladimir Vasilchenko, CEO of New Systems AM (the operator company of International Airport “Kharkov” belongs to DCH group headed by Alexander Yaroslavsky).
During Euro-2012 “Kharkov” matches the airport served 750 flights with 52 500 passengers on board. It is 3 times more flights and almost 4.5 times more intensive passenger flow than under standard conditions over the same period. Biggest companies-air carriers that served most Euro-2012 guests in Kharkov expressed appreciation to Kharkov airport administration. And organizers of Sochi-2014 Olympic Games expressed readiness to adopt work experience of International airport “Kharkov” for new Olympic capital air gate preparation for international competition guests receiving.
In 2012 the airport managed to extend number of flights. In particular for Kharkov citizens and its guests following flights became available: daily – to Sheremetyevo (Aeroflot airlines), weekly – to Podgorica (UTair Ukraine airlines), twice a day – to Kyiv (Zhulyany) (UTair Ukraine airlines). Also flight frequency to Sharjah was increased to two times a week (Air Arabia airlines). Seasonal cooperation with UIA was extended: flights to Barcelona (Spain) and Heraklion (Greece) were operated twice weekly. Also during last summer there were weekly flights to Saloniki (Greece) (Astra Airlines).
For the next year International airport “Kharkov” administration set ambitious goals – to increase passenger flow up to 600 000 people a year. We are planning to reach this goal by flight number increasing. It is expected to increase number of flights to Sheremetyevo from 1 to 2 times daily (Aeroflot airlines); from 1 to 2 times weekly – to Saloniki (Astra Airlines). Also we are planning to start flights to Moscow (Domodedovo) (Transaero airlines), Simferopol, Baku, St.Petersburg (UTair Ukraine Airlines). Parallely we continue negotiations with such famous international air carriers as Wizz Air (flights to Georgia and European countries), Air Berlin (flights to the capital of Germany – Berlin), Alitalia (flights to the capital of Italy – Rome) etc.
International airport “Kharkov” (http://hrk.aero/) – one of the key objects of the capital Slobozhanshchina, reconstructed at the present time in preparation for the finals of European Football Championship in 2012. Start of large-scale project was given on April 1, 2008, when the company “New Systems AM” (a group of DCH, the owner – a well-known Ukrainian businessman, investor and general coordinator of Kharkov’s preparations for Euro 2012, the president of FC “Metalist” Alexander Yaroslavsky) won the competition for long-term rent integral property complex of Kharkov airport.
