On August 12 UEFA General secretary Gianni Infantino visited Kharkiv objects of Euro 2012 on their readiness for the future European Championship. The visit took place within the official inspection of Ukrainian cities hosting Euro 2012.

As UNIAN correspondent reported, Gianni Infantino examined the new terminal in Kharkiv airport, which will be officially opened on 28 August. He was impressed by the scale of the work done. “This airport is of the European level”, – he stressed.

At the same time UEFA General secretary said that he wasn`t an airport expert, but he traveled a lot, so it can provide appropriate evaluation of the object. As previously reported, a new airport terminal, will not only beat the record for fastest construction (the project in less than 2 years, 3 months earlier than scheduled), but also will become the first in the history of Ukraine built financing by private investor`s money. Aleksandr Yaroslavskyy, general coordinator and investor of Kharkiv to Euro-2012, plans to invest in the reconstruction of international airport “Kharkiv” more than $ 80 million and more than half of this amount (about $ 55 million) has already been invested in new terminal building.

During a visit to RSC Metalist G. Infantino examined administrative building of the extension to the Western Stand, visited the VIP-sector and lockers for players and came to the field to personally ensure a high quality of Metalist stadium turf. As UNIAN found out from its own sources, in a personal discussion with Aleksandr Yaroslavskyy, he expressed his admiration for a sports complex. “How did you decide to reconstruct the stadium? Are you crazy?” – He asked the investor.

In addition UEFA General secretary visited Kharkiv mayor’s office, where he talked with reporters. He once again stressed the need to address the issue with the second training base, as FC Metalist reconstructed base in Vysokiy village (also funded by the A. Yaroslavskyy) can take only one team. At the press conference he noted that a good airport and a modern sports arena is not enough to concider the city fully prepared for Euro 2012. “Well, it would be good if there was hotel rooms, but people should know how to reach them” – he said, pointing to the inadequate preparation of transport infrastructure, responsibility for which lies on the local authorities. He stressed that today the dates of tasks` implementation are important. Especially due to the new date of the meeting of the UEFA Supervisory Board, which will be held on September, 24 this year. Hinting to the need for quick decisions and action, G. Infantino gave the city a symbolic clock with the countdown of time remaining till Euro 2012. He advised the authorities not to slow down the pace. “We will push you” – he promised.
